Lucy Nel was born in 1959 in the coastal town of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa.

It was only in 1998 that the artist was inspired to try her hand at painting with oils on canvas. With guidance from recognised local artists she painted a broad spectrum of subjects. Her paintings reveal the innocence of an artist that paints with inner feeling, void of the prescriptive theories often imposed on artists.

Lucy's work covers any subject but more often her love for nature and animals is reflected in her work.
